How Do I set up the Netgear WGR614 wireless internet router with my pc if i have a cable modem???????? Do I have to get rid of the modem for my cable internet or what is there a way i can hook this router up with out getting rid of anything?
I have a wireless router hooked to desktop computer and need to setup my laptop to it how do I set it up in order to surf the internet?
This is the only pc in the home so it is not “networked. Ihave a lynksys router, and the laptop is running Vista. I can get the router to put out a strong signel, but cannot connect to the internet. Now if I plug the cable modem directly into the laptop it works fine when its wired. I have read something about SSID’s matching and using a flash drive to get something, but I cannot locate my flashdrive, and I know when Ihooked my home network up I had called lynksys and I didnt have a flash drive but we were able to still get everything up and running. This is a differnt situation though since I only have the laptop I am wanting to use, its my uncles, and at 67 his very first computer so he knows ZIP. thanks for anyhelp anyone mayhave for me.
I bought a belkin router and adapter awhile ago. ive have written many questions on why i lag in games on my wireless router. people told me about my ping, wireless zero thing. well i notice that when im playing on the wired computer i lag. this is with the wireless router connected. when i disconnect the wireless router from the computer and just hook up the cable modem everything is fine. what could be the cause of this? please answer thanks.
i don’t know if i explained it right. i hope you guys will follow what im trying to say.
I already have a PC and cable modem (Charter). I just bought a laptop. Can I hook up a wireless router directly to the modem to provide wireless access for my laptop… or do I still have to have a hardline from the router to my old PC?
Seems pretty simple but this is my first time setting up a Linksys wireless router and my question is…..is it simple to do really? I have 2 eternet cords, one that the router came with which is pretty short and the one going into my desktop computer, do I need another ethernet cord? So here’s how I think it would be set up, I have comcast cable and I figure just plug the blue ethernet from the cable modem into the router and just plug the ethernet from the computer into the router. It shows on the cd that you have to unplug the ethernet from back of the desktop and plug it into the router and then plug the blue ethernet that came with the router into the computer. Why couldn’t I just leave the other ethernet plugged into the computer and then just plug the other end into the router, then plug the blue one from the modem to the router? CONFUSED!!!! Please help!!!! I’m usually pretty good with hooking thing’s up but don’t want to screw anything up. Thanks to all who can help!!!
I have a desktop for the house. My daughter has purchased a Dell Ispiron 1501 laptop. We bought a Netgear Wireless-G Router (WGR614) which came w/ no instructions. My question is this: the router came w/ an instillation cd & i need to know do i load the cd to my desktop or to the laptop OR to both of them?
I believe that i have to connect the cord that came w/ the router to the cable modem (in the ethernet port) & the other end into the router.
OK now what? Please help I am so computer illeterate w/ how to hook things up!! I feel so dumb!! Auggggggg someone please help me!!
Thanks sooo much!
What about the cd that came w/ the router: Do I load it on my desktop or laptop? OR do i load it to both of them?
Also, I don’t think i understand: The router only came w/ 1 cord & this i assume goes from the router to the ethernet port. There is not a cord to connect to the laptop.
Sorry, I may just not know WHAT to ask other than I don’t have a CLUE as to what I’m doing!!
Thanks
I live on the bottom floor of a shared house. Our cable modem is on the 3rd floor. Is there anyway that I can keep the base of my phone downstairs away from the cable modem?
We have a wireless network set up in the house but in order to plug my phone in, I need an ethernet hook-up. Can I buy something to put downstairs that connects to the wireless network but also gives me an ethernet hook-up??
I need to make a network that can be detected by a labtop without being hook up to the labtop. Never done this before. Wi-Fi is it? I have no idea.
