I left my previous company before the requisite time period and have to repay my sign-on bonus.
I left since our group merged with another larger group and everyone in my group/location has now moved on. Also the job was not what it was promised to be in terms of consulting focus.
My previous company has now referred this to a collection agency . I am concerned that this will appear on my credit report. I have 30 days to dispute this and have the following questions:
(1) Should I seek the advice of an attorney? My previous company never provided me with a signed letter of my repayment agreement and I don’t have the original. Also I think it may be better to have an Attorney write a letter on my behalf initially for negotiation purposes
(2) Would you deal with the previous co. or the agency?
(3) Has anyone dealt with this before and what was their experience?
