My male mallard duckling came from Lees Feeds Western Store with a wire bracelet around his leg. It has swollen up a LOT. We managed to get it off and the swelling is going down quickly. But when he swims and walks his swollen leg is no use. When he swims it drags behind and when he walks, he limps. Is there something else that could be wrong? Will it heal itself? Please note that he CAN move his leg, it is not paralized.

I had a rooster with a twisting cutting injury. He limped around for a good month at the least. After that he now runs and walks and jumps as any normal chicken would. You will be amazed at what poultry can come back from. I would assume that the chickens and ducks bone and muscle structure is very similar.
It should eventually heal on its own. Give it time. Make sure the lil one doesnt walk to much. The best therepy to do is to keep letting him swim, dont leave un attended, let him swim 10 minutes a day, thats what helped my duck out, she isnt as bad bust still has limp.
