Linksys cable modem & Dlink wireless g router?

rinea asked:

are there any compatibility issues with a setup like this? plus a belkin wireless card.

our current network is a linksys cable modem hooked up to a linksys wireless b router. all of the wireless cards are different brands and types. we are just wanting to upgrade to wireless g, and the new roommate already has a dlink one. thanks for any input.

No compatibility issues with this. But, if your cable service speed is less than 11mbps, and you don’t network, your new router will not do you any good.

If you’re using it for internet access then you will probably not have any problems with throughput, since most cable systems are still less than half the bandwidth of 802.11b. The G cards should work with them fine. We have a cheapo RCA modem and a linksys router with g and I get g connection with my microsoft card and an internal g card with a compaq.

If you are trying to send network the computers together directly, you could have issues connecting at g, if they use a non-standard accelerator. Just keep it at the standard g or b and you will probably be fine.

No they all should work, but it will probably work faster and be more seamless if you use the same brand across the board.
