How/what do you say or write in a 2 week notice letter?

Wondering asked:

I’ve been with my current employer for 7 years and I found another position somewhere else… this is my first job so i’m not sure what to write in the 2 week notice… thanks for you help.

This company is relocating and i was not willing to make the move so i found another job closer to where i currently live. They will be blind sided by this so i’m kinda nervous…this company has been good to me, i’ve been here since i was 16.

Again thanks for your help.

Sounds like you know exactly what to say. Make sure you let them know how thankful you are for this opportunity and how it has been a great experience for you. However, the relocation will be too much of a strain on the rest of your life, and you regret that you won’t be able to fill your position anymore. And close the letter with more appreciative words.

Remember to be firm though. Yes, you have been there for a while, and no they haven’t done anything (besides relocate) to make you want to leave, but you have to. This is your life, and you simply have to do what you have to you. It’s not an issue of hard feelings towards them, so don’t feel like you are apologizing for that. All you owe them is your honesty and notes of appreciation.

    Good luck, just be yourself!

If they are moving, trust me they will not be blind sided. Companies sometimes change locations just to “clean house.”
Simply state your desire to stay living where you are now and thank them for the many years of happy employment. State the unfortunate circumstance by which you are deciding to leave and again thank them for all the experience and how you have been happy to be part of their past success.
Don’t forget to ask for letters of recommendation.
Given that they are moving, they will certainly understand.

    Dear Boss,

Please accept this letter as my resignation of employment, effective (date). I have accepted another opportunity in closer proximity to my home.

I appreciate your support and guidance during my years with (company name), and I wish great success to everyone here.

    Regards,

    You
