How to get rid of snakes?

how to get rid of snakes
jay37 asked:

My mother in-law lives near a nice stream. I would like to let my children play in it to cool off this summer. However in the past couple of years we have seen snakes in and around the small river. One was a copperhead. How can I make an area of this stream safe for my kids to play in?
Do you think that by splashing around and making lot of noise will chase them away while we are there? I don’t want to do anything that will harm the environment.

Peter piper? Or call a pest control place. But snakes are good for the environment, creepy but good. They eat small pests and bugs. I understand though that you have small chldren so I guess in our situation snakes are not good.

For every snake you see, there are probably six you DON’T see. With the continual movement of the stream, you’ll never be able to completely guard against snakes. But you can keep the underbrush cut down, taking away their natural hiding spots on the banks.

There is a product on the market called “Snake-A-Way” which contains sulfur, but I don’t know the environmental impact of such a product. I would research it before I applied near a natural water source.

Snakes are very shy creatures, and fear us just as much as we fear them. Plus, they provide a natural rodent-control for us. Getting along with nature is always a challenge, but it usually goes badly when we interfere.

Hope you figure out a way to enjoy that stream! Be careful out there!

Throw some big rocks in before getting into the water. Yes make a lot of noise, maybe even bring a radio. Most likely the snake will run away, they don’t like us anymore than we like them.
