How do you get candle wax off of glass?

kevyree asked:

My coffee table is glass and a candle melted on it. I don’t want to use a knife to get it off because I don’t want to end up scratching it. What do I do?

Try using a blow dryer to melt the wax. Or wax remover… Walmart has that.

Place a warm cloth on the under side of the glass. The wax will loosen up and you will be able to pick it off with your fingers.

Only a suggestion – how about using a hair dryer to soften and loosen the wax and soak it up with paper towel?

Throw a scrap piece of cloth over the candle wax, then turn on your iron and run the hot iron over it. Wax melts, wipe it off with the cloth, but make sure it’s something you don’t mind throwing away. I’ve tried this on my glass dining table before and hardwood floors with much success! I’ve heard it works to get wax out of carpet too, but I haven’t tried that.

I’ve also heard of using a blow dryer, but I don’t think I would use that approach. I can’t say from experience, but it seems like even if the dryer got hot enough to melt the wax, wouldn’t it just spread it onto….everything else?

Instead of using a knife, use a flat spatula… it shouldn’t scratch the surface. You could even use the flat side of a frost remover (car)… it seems like heating it back up would be too much work for something that should come off easily.

The hairdryer and the iron are both good ways to get the thickest bits off. Unfortunately there is still a thin layer or wax left over.Use liquid sugar soap and very hot water afterwards.

I’d be careful about overheating the glass and cracking it. I think the plastic spatula idea is good and probably some WD40 tho clean the smear that will be left.

I had this very same problem about 3 weeks ago.you will probably have to use a paring knife very carefully on the worst spots.take a pot scrubber, they come in a pack of 12 i think, different colors, dont know how else to describe it.they are about 4×2 i guess.rub the dry scrubber over the glass at different angles, pressing hard, especially with your fingertips.you will probably have to do this several times, then clean with glass cleaner.eventually,it will come off.make sure that you dont use any copper pads or steel wool, this will scratch the table.

Rub a piece of ice over the wax. It will become hard and brittle, and you could use a fingernail to pop it off.

I really like a product called “Goo Gone”. It takes off wax, adhesive residue, and many other stains.
