    you can’t you need a ethernet cable from the modem to the router

    Hook up the eithernet cable that comes with the router between the modem and the WAN port. Start up your laptop, make sure you have WiFi in the laptop on, right click on the icon at the bottom right of your screen with a red x on it, as click view available wireless networks, pick the one thats called default or something like that. It will be unsecure, you should login to the router and enable WEP encription. Read the manual that came with the router it will tell you how to do all this.

    How do you get internet without it plugged into the phone line?

    Plug the ethernet cord from your computer into your router. Then run another ethernet corner from your router to your modem and a phone line from the modem to the wall outlet.
