I think sulfur powder, but someone at home and garden center or pest control retail place may be able to help. Or may find answer on county extension office website.

Go to Lowes or a place like that and get some “snake away”. It is granules you sprinkle around the perimeter of your yard. Hubby did that and we have seen no more in the yard.

I have heard several different remedies to this. I have even seen snake repellent sold at the local department stores (Wal-mart, Lowes, and Home Depot), I just don’t think anything will really work though. Good luck, I hate them too

I don’t know if they do- but if I were a snake and I smelled mothballs, I would slither away as fast as I could!

My family used to live beside a pond that was infested with water moccasins- and unfortunately the local kids didn’t have the good sense to stay away from it. So what I would do is take a shovel and go on ‘snake patrol’. And if I found one, I would chop its head off. The snakes learned to stay well away from me. I don’t recommend this, by the way.

Another thing you might do is get cats, if you can take care of them: Cats, especially females, will kill snakes.

    Good luck!

You can use a product called Snake-Away. For more information about it, refer to the link.

Moth balls can also be scattered about to deter snakes.

Make a gate around the area where your kids play and make it really high so the snakes can’t climb over the gate. snakes do burrow, but not in the grass because it isn’t possible. Also, don’t worry as much if the snakes aren’t poisonous, but if you live in an area where there are a lot of poisonouse snakes (western areas have more venomous snakes, california come to mind) I really wouldn’t let your kids play there because there is no real way to stop snakes from coming into your yard. Putting a gate up does help, but they’re could be a rattlesnake hiding amongst the grass or bushes.

I dont know where you live or what type of snakes you have(if you live in like Arizona, iim sure its pretty serious) but here in cleveland, we juts ahve small garden snakes and back snakes. We just planted peppermint plants all around and it kept them out. Sakes hate like a strong odor, and peppermint is supposed to work the best. Also, if there is a bush or something where you know a snkae is at, if you light a scented candle by it, the snake will not be able to take the aroma, and willbe driven from the bush area. It probablty wont return there.

First, the snakes are there because there must be food (most likely rodents), and those are there most likely because there is food (fruit/nut trees?). If you can interrupt the food chain, the snakes will diminish over time.

Second, eliminate habitats that snakes typically use to live and reproduce in – basically voids under rocks and stumps, lumber, abandoned rodent and other small animal burrows, etc.

Third, the kids aren’t in danger unless they are completely unsupervised and you have a venomous snakes, or really large constrictors. Just make sure they know to stay away (but hopefully without instilling an unwarranted fear of all snakes in the process).

Snakes feed on rodents, so eliminate any mice or rates that might be in the area. Most of the products that are “supposed” to ward off snakes don’t, or they make but only for a brief time. Believe me, I’m terrified of snakes and I’ve tried everything. The only thing that will work is eliminating tall grass, water holes (ponds, etc) and snake “food” (rodents).

Do the snakes have poison? if they don’t then keep them in your yard. They will keep pests off of your plants.
