Can you use a wireless router on a cable modem?

Sammy1247 asked:

I’m getting X-box Live and my room is on the other end of the house from the computer. We have Charter Hi-Speed internet and apparently we have a cable U.S.B modem. I’m not very smart when it comes to these things, and I was wondering: Can I hook up a wireless router to my cable modem, and a wireless receiver to my X-box? Or do I have to use a REALLY long ethernet cable?
Okay I’m sorry I told you I’m really dumb when it comes to this kind of thing! Hahahha. Well we brought this tiny tv into my computer room and hooked up the ethernet cable to my xbox and my xbox to my tv, and it worked fine, so I guess I have an ethernet thing on my modem. Will a wireless router work with that?

If your modem for some reason does not have an ethernet port, and only uses a usb connection, you will have to find a wireless router that accepts a usb connection for an input, and they are expensive. Any idea why you are hooked up through a usb cable and not an ethernet cable? A usb cuts your speeds down considerably and should only be used if there is a problem with your ethernet port on your computer.
