What can I do to get rid of ants?

get rid of ants
~Jen~ asked:

I am not sure what kind of ants they are but there everywhere in my house, even in the bathroom. All I know is that they are little black ants. I dont leave food or anything like that out so I dont know why they are so bad. They are driving me crazy! What can I use to get rid of them that would be safe to use around a cat?? Any advice would be great!! Thank you!

It’s that time of year I guess! Great.

I’ve got a few scouting out my bedroom yet again this spring. Hopefully, as long as I can keep my Easter candy away they will get the idea there is nothing here and move on!

Honestly, as a kid, what I used to do was figure out where they were getting in…then take some glue that dries clear and seal it over. lol My mother wasn’t thrilled with the concept, but hey it worked!

In a small dish, or even the screw cap of a jar, place some honey and some Borax (available at your supermarket). Mix it until it is a cream colour. Place a few of these around the house, out of the reach of kids and pets. The honey will attract the ants and the Borax will kill them. They will go away to die.

I have the same issue in the spring/summer. Buy a few cans of ant spray (doesn’t really matter which kind), I use RAID Ant Spray. In the room you have the issue with – spray on a decent amount where the wall meets the floor. I noticed the ants seem to like water too, so I usually have to spray around the perimeter of the countertops of my kitchen sink and in the underneth of the kitchen sink.

If you still have issues, you may need to get the large bottle of ant spray with the sprayer gun and spray around the outside perimeter of your house.

This seems to work for me. I have cats and dogs and the Raid spray does not harm them.

    This helps me. Good Luck.

The ground is full of water right now so the only place then can go is your place. Take the cat with you on Saturday and bomb your house good. Go to Lowes or HD and get the kind of insecticide good for inside and outside your house. Read the directions and use the recommended rate.Put down Triazicide in the spring and summer making a barrier around your home. Good luck.

depends on the type of ant and what part of the country you live in, there are odorous brown, carpenter, and sounds like you may have Pharaoh ants, call a reputable exterminator, stop spraying until you find out what kind you have, if it is pharaoh ants, spraying will scatter them and make it worse, they have to be baited

terro ant bait. get the liquid that you put on the little square of cardboard, not the bait trap–that’s too hard for them to get into. Set it in their path so they have to walk through it the first time. They will gather around it and take it back to the nest and kill the whole lot.

depending on how big a colony it is, you may have to treat them a couple of times. I had problems last summer with them and it took me 2 or 3 days to get rid of them.

try going outside and see if you can find some ant mounds…if you can locate them pour some dry grits around them…if you are lucky they are the type of ant that will eat things that are not sweet and eat the grits..when the ants drink water the grits will expand in their stomachs and kill the ants…and it is safe for pets….if they eat only sweets they don’t eat the grits…

hi Jennifer, this is something safe that you can do around the house with children or a cat. I learned this from someone who had tried it before, and I also tried it and was amazed that it worked. For some unknown reason, ants will not cross over chalk line. so, I placed lines of it around my window seals and around the door frame. Any other place that they might could come in, and sure enough, they rerouted their trail to somewhere else. I bought the cheap kind from the dollar store, and the only time. You have to redo it is if it gets wet, or of course you clean around it. So this works very well, and I hope it works for you to, I had black ants and fire ants that were trying to come into my house, and they were on the porches, after I placed the chalk down, I didn’t have a problem again. Either way, whatever you find that works, I wish you luck. I have 11 cats, so I don’t think I will ever have a problem with bugs, because they eat them, and I haven’t seen a spider in three years, because they think they are toys, which makes me very happy. Best of luck.
