spray vinegar all around your house…that should stop them in their tracks. I don’t know what kind of ants they are or if they can damage your home… this is the website that says vinegar will stop ants in the home

If you live in a warm area, make sure your house is kept cool enough throughout the day. I used to turn the AC up (warmer) during the day while I was at work, but then got ants. Keeping it cooler helps.

Also make sure you don’t leave food lying around. Bread, sugar, anything with crumbs are a major attraction.

Go to your local hardware store and get Terro ant killer. I use the liquid one in the house for my ants. They are the little ones and it works great. Yours sound pretty mean. Follow the directions. You may need a bigger piece of cardboard for your ants. When the ants are sucking up the poison just let them be. Add more as they suck it up. They will get “drunk” and sit there for a while and then they take back the poison to their colony. It may take a week or so. Just keep them full of the Terro Poison. Terro ant poison also come in powder form which I used out on my driveway for army ants. It all works great.

if they happen to be a large ant they will be carpenter ants…they start to swarm this time of year…the males will be black with wings… if they are carpenter ants they will set up in a void area, the void may be wood that had been damaged by moisture and they excavated into it or the void may be aluminum tubing that makes up the screen framing or storm windows. Conventional ant products won’t be effective but there are a couple of specialized carp ant baits on the market now. Advance Carp Ant Granules…MaxForce Carp Ant Gel. Both would need to be purchased at a pest control supply house or do it yourself type pest store. There are a half a dozen or so ant species that come in the half red/black as you described. Knowing what they are for sure will be the best way for you to address the problem. If by chance they are carpenter ants, though they are labeled a wood destroying insect, they are more of a nuisance than anything else, but would have to be taken care of before ever selling or refinancing the home.
