Borax! Buy some 20 Mule Team Borax in the laundry section. You can sprinkle it dry around the perimeter of where you do not want the ants to go. Another way you can use Borax is to mix sugar and water to make a sticky paste – or use a little soda pop and then mix the Borax with that. Ants often like sweet, but the Borax is deadly to them. They carry it back to the nest and it kills the queen: no more ants. This method takes several days before you notice the number of ants diminishing but be patient because it works — and no chemicals!
I have the same problem and it seems though if I clean up real good after I cook or snack I am ok.. Its when I leave crumbs aroung or dont clean the counter or stove off good… Good luck Grant M in Pennsylvania

Make a barrier of talcum powder.
