How to Exfoliate to Get Rid of Flakiness, Pimples and Get Brighter Skin

www.spaboutique.ca Exfoliating is an easy step that should be in every skin care routine. It gets rid of the build up of dead skin cells. It can help to improve acne, get rid of flaky skin and even out the skin tone. 1)Sensitive Skin should exfoliate 1-2 times a week. Normal to oily should do it 2-3 2) Let them exfoliant do the work. Using more or pressing harder will not make it work better. You don’t want to irritate the skin OR go through product too fast. 3) Exfoliate after cleansing. You can do it in the morning or at night, whichever you prefer. 4) Always follow with a moisturizer. This keeps the skin balanced. The act of exfoliating is usually a bit drying. People who are prone to acne need to moisturize too. Use an oil free one to balance out the oil production in the skin. Mechanical: Scrubby beads. Find ones that are spherical. Stay away from crushed nuts or pits (yes that apricot scrub smells lovely but it’s actually making little cuts in your skin) Gommage: Not for sensitive skin. Apply a thin layer to the skin, let it get tacky or dry. Hold the skin tight and then rub the product off in small circular motions. Follow with a toner and moisturizer. Enzymatic: These are left on the skin. The enzymes from pineapple (bromelain) or papaya (papain) will loosen the dead skin cells, making them easy to wash away. AHA: Acids derived from fruits, these are extremely effective at clearing, brightening and exfoliating the skin. They do cause sun sensitivity though, so

The general outline for a skin care routine is
    1.Cleanse (am and pm)
    2.Tone (am and pm)
3 Exfoliate (pm 1-3x a week depending on skin)
    4. Mask (pm 1-2 times a week, same night as exfoliating is great)
    5. Serum (am and pm if using)
    6. Moisturizer (am and pm)
    7. Eye cream (am and pm)

Professional facials are a great idea to have about every two months. Stronger products, a current assessment and a really deep clean that cannot be achieved at home. Plus the relaxation!

Crushed nuts or shells can be much too abrasive for the face. You need exfoliants that say they are spherical , are made of rice or bamboo. You can also go with enzymatic ones of AHAs. Mechanical exfoliants are the least effective and most irritating. But a well formulated one can still be beneficial.

Yes, I’m sorry. I try and slow down but no matter how slow it sounds in my head I’m always told by some people that it’s still too fast. I include all of the information on the side in the info box as well.

With oily/combination you should be exfoliating about 2-3 times a week. Make sure to be using a gentle scrub that doesn’t contain any crushed nuts or shells as those can irritate the skin.
Look for a product that contains spherical beads, is enzymatic of has AHAs. I hope that helped!

    Hello!
Oily to combination skin should be exfoliating 2-3 times a week. Most masks should be used once a week. There is a certain amount of irritation risk with that particular exfoliant. But if you are seeing results you like, then there is no need to change. Thank you for your question.
